Fergus Falls council introduces cannabis zoning changes; second reading set in two weeks

Fergus Falls — The City Council on July 15 introduced an ordinance updating cannabis zoning and instructed staff to amend language before a second reading.
Council members agreed to modify section 5 so that uses listed as interim in B-6 commercial zones would instead be permitted as conditional uses. A council member framed the amendment as a compromise to address concerns from the planning commission and the local cannabis committee; the council’s intention is to have zoning regulations in place sooner rather than later.
Mayor Benjamin Shire said the ordinance will come back in two weeks for a second reading and that the council will accept public comment at that time. Council members and staff encouraged members of the public who have views on the ordinance to share them with council prior to the second reading.
No vote on final adoption took place July 15; the introduction establishes the city’s timetable and opens a formal window for public input before the second reading and vote.
