The Inglewood Community Redevelopment Area presented its annual report to the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 26, highlighting downtown events, storefront improvement projects and infrastructure needs.
Chair of the Inglewood CRA (Marci Castaneda) reviewed program accomplishments for Oct. 2023–Sep. 2024: regular community events at Pioneer Plaza including a farmers market that draws thousands weekly in season, storefront improvement grants for historic buildings (liens forgiven after five years), seasonal banners and signage, and upgrades to security and maintenance at public plazas. She said the CRA is funded by TIF dollars reserved for redevelopment and reported an approximate fund balance of about $4,000,500.
Castaneda emphasized recovery from recent storms, flood impacts in the district, seawall damage at the Veterans Memorial and the need for parking solutions as downtown visitation grows. She described a shelved sidewalk/streetscape project in parts of the district because narrow street widths and drainage issues require further analysis.
Commissioners thanked the CRA board and staff and flagged near‑term priorities, with Commissioner Kutzinger and others focusing on parking solutions and stakeholder involvement as critical next steps. Staff said parking‑site acquisition efforts are underway and that a full update on pass/dredging work and Midnight Pass activity will be presented Sept. 9.
