Board extends superintendent search, approves policy deletions and several personnel votes

The Township HSD 211 Board took a series of procedural and personnel actions during the meeting.
Superintendent search: The board voted to extend the superintendent search beyond its previously stated Oct. 17 deadline after discussion about whether to set a firm alternate date. An amendment to extend the search to Dec. 12 failed; the board approved the open‑ended extension to allow continued interviews and selection work.
Consent and legal actions: Trustees approved the consent agenda (with removal of one item for separate consideration) and then approved a resolution authorizing intervention in a set of State Property Tax Appeal Board dockets (multiple docket numbers listed on the agenda) and authorized Francik to serve as the district’s legal representative to file requests to intervene. Roll call on the PTAB intervention resolution recorded six ayes and one no; the motion carried.
Policies and approvals: By roll call the board approved the second‑reading deletions of several management personnel policies (GDBC, GDBD, GDBE, GDD, GDLB, GDPC) and directed the superintendent to remove the policies from active status on BoardDocs. The board also approved overseas foreign exchange travel participation for 2025 (noting trips may be canceled if federal guidance deems travel unsafe) and adopted the 2026–27 school calendar (180 instructional days with additional institute days and contingency weather days).
Personnel actions: The board accepted the retirement request of Kenneth Novak effective October 2024 under the master contract for the D211 operations maintenance group. The board also approved termination of employee Robert Schaffer and directed the board secretary to notify the employee in writing.
The meeting moved into closed session to discuss lawfully closed minutes, personnel and student matters and returned to open session before concluding and adjourning.
