District 211 board approves proposed 2024 levy after debate; routine business and contracts also approved

Staff described the state school report card metrics that contribute to summative ratings and noted that three district schools earned exemplary designations.
The board also awarded base bids for auditorium improvements at James B. Conant High School (concrete, masonry, general trades, tile/flooring and electrical bidders listed in the agenda), citing ADA access upgrades, new lights, curtains and carpeting. The board authorized the superintendent to execute a contract with Justin's Inc. for purchases covering multiple school years (2024–25 through 2026–27), approved acceptance of the retirement request of Deborah Schmidt (effective December 2026, per the master contract of District 211 United Support Staff), and approved reimbursement for eligible employees' insurance premiums.
All procurement, personnel and routine fiscal motions were approved by roll call as presented. No litigation, annexation, or additional bond issuances were authorized at the meeting.
The meeting then entered closed session as allowed under the Open Meetings Act and returned to approve the retirement and reimbursement items before adjourning.
