Township HSD 211 holds recognition program to honor veterans, student-athletes and educators

District staff highlighted employees who have served in the U.S. military and introduced Patrick DeGeorge, a public relations specialist and National Guard member who was recognized for his service and asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The program then acknowledged several athletic achievements from district high schools, including freshman golfer Madeline Gutierrez’s state-level finish and the Fremd High School girls flag football team’s All-State honorees. Conant High School staff were named as sponsors for some recognitions, including Principal Julie Novak and athletic director Eric Hauser. Megan Hiebert was introduced as a longtime Conant coach and teacher.
Brittany McKenna was named the 2024 Art Educator of the Year by the Illinois Art Education Association; the presentation noted her teaching assignments at Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg high schools and praised her contributions to the district’s art, design and media education programs. Attendees paused for photos following the recognitions.
The ceremony also included an onstage presentation of a $3,625 check from Palatine Township (see related coverage) earmarked to pay $25 of iPad insurance for 145 qualifying high school students. The board thanked township representatives for the donation.
Because there was no quorum present, the board noted that no formal business would be conducted and that the regular meeting would be rescheduled and posted on the district website.
