Aurora council approves $3.9 million fire-station contract, multiple resurfacing projects and property transfer

Aurora City Council approved multiple contracts and ordinances at its Aug. 27 meeting, including a $3,923,750 contract (plus a 10% contingency) with Leopardo Construction for construction of three new fire stations and the acceptance of about 10 acres from the state by quitclaim deed.
The council approved a multi-item consent agenda that included low-bid building renovations at 745 Aurora Avenue ($662,700, plus a 10% contingency), several street resurfacing projects funded with Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) dollars (Indian Trail, Ashland Avenue, Liberty Street, Prairie Street) with phase-3 engineering agreements ranging from about $98,910 to $201,635 and associated appropriations, an IEPA Office of Energy grant award of $101,790, a ComEd energy-efficiency incentive up to $19,849 for the new public works facility, and a $30,000 donation from the Huntington Foundation for the Financial Empowerment Center. The consent agenda and direct-to-council consent items were approved by roll call (12 yes, 0 no).
Under unfinished business the council approved a three-year renewal of Gartner Incorporated services (resolution 240423) by roll call (11 yes, 1 no). Under new business the council adopted an ordinance authorizing acquisition of property at the west corner of Pierce Street and Broadway by eminent domain or otherwise (240638) and approved acceptance of roughly 10 acres in Sugar Grove Township returned from the state as part of airport property (240641); both measures passed with recorded roll calls (votes ranged from unanimous to 11–1).
Chris Faber of Invest Aurora spoke briefly during questions on the Finish Line grant program revisions, saying the organization expected to review an initial 12 approved applicants with a target of returning to their board in September and to re-open the portal to the rest of the city after Labor Day, pending funding.
