Chief Spaulding reports 629 events, community policing efforts and new vehicles

"There were 629 total events during that period," the chief said, adding the department handled nine incident reports and had undertaken targeted community‑policing work, including first‑day school patrols and outreach to local businesses after a string of burglaries in a neighboring community.
The chief highlighted ongoing community programs, including an annual junior CSI program planned at Cooper Park and proactive visits by officers to convenience and liquor stores to verify cameras and alarm systems. He also told the council the department received two new Dodge Durangos and a used auxiliary vehicle that will be upfitted with radios, computers and cameras before entering service.
The chief noted auxiliary volunteer leadership changes while one volunteer lieutenant takes a six‑month work assignment out of the country, and recognized individual officers for their work in retrofitting the auxiliary vehicle to save town costs.
Next steps: The department will continue community‑policing outreach, complete vehicle upfitting and provide the council with routine updates during future meetings.
