County contracts surveyor to finish PLSS monument grant work

Cook County commissioners on Jan. 27 approved a professional services agreement with registered land surveyor Guy Carlson to finish remonumentation work under a Spring 2024 Public Land Survey System (PLSS) grant.
Staff told the board there are remaining funds and deliverables from the earlier contract; the proposed agreement is a not-to-exceed contract to complete the remaining field work and prepare coroner (corner) certificates for recording. “There’s remaining work and remaining funds,” a presenter said, explaining the contract will use existing grant funds to formalize corners spanning from County Road 60 through Caspers Hill and East 14 to Linscoot Road.
Commissioners noted the passing of the prior project lead, Wayne Henschey, and discussed next steps for land records and potential longer-term arrangements for surveying capacity. The board voted to approve the agreement; staff said the contract will be administered to complete the 64 total corners and close out the grant within the extended deadline.
