Horry County honors firefighters, designates Fire Prevention Week and recognizes homicide victims

Horry County Council adopted Resolution R-126-2025 designating Oct. 5–11, 2025 as Fire Prevention Week and heard remarks from Fire Chief Tanner about outreach plans and a focus this year on lithium-ion battery safety.
Chief Tanner told council members the county is coordinating with the Solid Waste Authority on how to dispose of lithium-ion batteries and directed attendees to a QR code that links to disposal instructions and contact information. Council members acknowledged those efforts and expressed appreciation for public-safety staff.
The council also adopted Resolution R-127-2025 commending a firefighter/EMT who received the South Carolina State Firefighters Association 2025 Meritorious Action Award. Chief Tanner described firefighter Krasinski entering a structure after hearing a voice and rescuing a person who survived the incident.
Separately, the council recognized a National Day of Recognition for homicide victims and their families and thanked Sergeant Amy Jackson for submitting the recognition for consideration; the chief and council pledged continued investigative attention to open cases.
