Committee approves HOME housing awards, community grants, jury-pay increase and loan amendment

HOME Consortium awards: A presenter recommended awarding HOME funds administered by the Horry County-led three-county consortium. The recommendations that the committee approved included:
- $400,000 to Eastern Carolina Housing Organization for tenant-based rental assistance, designed to benefit 50 households. - $360,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Horry County for the Silver Creek Affordable Townhomes project (six HOME-assisted units, $60,000 of HOME funds per HOME-assisted unit; presenter said the total project cost is about $1,500,000 and the parcel was purchased with ARPA funds). - $260,004 to Habitat for Humanity of Georgetown County (two units at $130,002 HOME funds per unit; presenter cited a total project cost of $347,174).
The committee moved, seconded, and voted to approve the HOME awards.
Community benefit fund awards: Miss Carroll presented a series of community-benefit requests and the committee approved the allocations. Highlights included $4,000 (combined districts) for Love for Paul's Rescue (veterinary care and pet food donations), $7,000 for Coastal Carolina Sertoma to take underprivileged children school shopping, multiple smaller awards for animal-rescue and veteran-support organizations, and $15,000 from District 4 for the Beach Ball Classic to assist high-school travel.
Jury pay and mileage: Miss Dodd presented a resolution to increase juror pay from $15 per day to $25 per day and to increase mileage reimbursement (the presenter said the county has funds in current accounts to cover the increase). Following a motion and second, the committee voted in favor and the resolution carried.
Eagle Trace interfund loan: The committee approved an amendment to Resolution R-27-2025 to change the periodic drawdown structure for the Eagle Trace Special Tax District interfund loan (project delayed one year); the amendment allows funds to remain available and interest will accrue only on amounts actually drawn.
Recognition: The committee also approved a resolution recognizing Maryland Hatley for her public service as mayor of North Myrtle Beach.
