The Molalla River School District Board of Education on Feb. 13 approved a resolution authorizing district administrators to pursue partnerships and fundraising to install artificial turf on Heckerd Field and resurface the track at Burkhart Stadium.
The resolution (School Board Resolution 2024-2025.006) formalizes the district’s intent to leverage the board’s existing $1,000,000 appropriation and seek grants, sponsorships, private contributions and donated materials or labor to close the remaining funding gap. Administration told the board that roughly $100,000 has already been spent on design and engineering and that the outstanding need is “north of $1,500,000.”
Tony (presenting for the administration) said the district has identified promising relationships — including an application to the Department of Defense/National Guard and conversations with nonprofits and businesses — but that no formal agreements are signed. “This resolution opens the door for us to talk formally with folks,” he said. The board’s action, he added, would not authorize additional district spending beyond the $1 million already committed; construction would not be scheduled until matching funds are secured.
Athletic director Lord answered questions about operations and liability and said boosters and community partners remain involved in planning fundraising strategies.
Linda (reading the resolution to the board) recited the text of Resolution 2024-2025.006, which states the district’s intent to pursue partnerships and to oversee the project in compliance with the district’s policies and financial regulations. After the resolution was read, the board approved the motion by voice/raise of hand.
The next procedural step: administration will continue outreach to potential partners and return with updates and any formal partnership agreements for board consideration.
