Board endorses stakeholder calendar‑committee process, will rework 2026–27 calendar
Summary
Board members backed a 5–6 week calendar‑committee process that would assemble about 12 stakeholders (teachers, assistants, parents, principals, business rep, student advisers) to draft two calendar options for employee voting, and a motion was made to use that process to set calendars for the next two years.

Board members on Nov. 17 debated and then moved to adopt a stakeholder‑driven process for selecting district calendars, aiming to reduce controversy by involving teachers, support staff, three principals, assistant superintendents, a local business representative, parents (elementary, middle, high) and student advisors.
The proposer described a 5–6 week process: week 1 convene the 12‑member calendar committee and review state guidelines; week 2 draft two calendar options (Calendar A and Calendar B); week 3 solicit stakeholder feedback; week 4 provide a progress update to the board; week 5 put calendars to a staff vote; and week 6 return to the board with a recommended calendar based on that vote. The presenter said the committee could present a recommended 2026–27 calendar in January and a second reading in February, and could follow the same timeline for subsequent years.
Several board members said the approach would address earlier complaints that staff and teachers lacked input in the prior calendar process. One board member described last meeting’s handling of the calendar as a "debacle" and said the new process was an answer to that problem. Another said the key is stakeholder feedback: "What makes a great calendar is the stakeholder feedback... All voices are heard."
A motion to use the procedures and committees recommended that night to set calendars for the next two years was made and seconded; the transcript records the motion and supporting discussion. The board did not finalize exact calendar dates in the meeting; staff were directed to convene the committee, solicit stakeholder input and return with drafts for employee voting and board consideration.
