Clerk outlines early-voting schedule, warns election budget is tight

Heather (elections staff) told the commission the county's advanced voting began Oct. 16 and that early voting would run through noon Nov. 4. "Early voting started yesterday, and that will run until Monday, November 4 at noon," she said, and noted Oct. 29 is the last day to apply for advance voting by mail.
Heather proposed holding the general-election canvas on Tuesday, Nov. 12 (or Nov. 13 as an alternate), estimating the process could take about two hours and asking the commission to consider a 10:30 a.m. start time to allow room setup. The commission discussed aligning the canvas with a regular meeting when possible.
On the elections budget, Heather said contractual costs stood at $43,919 and commodities at $9,320 and warned equipment updates (receipt machines, new pull-pad stands) could add about $9,000. "That's tight," she said of the current budgets, and noted additional grant funds had helped offset previous election costs but that the upcoming general election would be close. She also said poll-worker numbers rose after location consolidation, adding greeters and machine attendants at some sites.
A commissioner moved for a 10-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel related to elections; the motion passed and the commission returned to open session and continued scheduling and administrative matters. The clerk will return with final canvas logistics and monitor equipment and budget lines ahead of the November election.
