Goodhue County staff told the Committee of the Whole the county has hired a third party to conduct facility assessments for several major county buildings and expects to present those results in follow-up meetings in September.
"The county has hired a third party to perform facility assessments on the law enforcement center, the adult detention center, the justice center, public works and the recycling center," Speaker 2 said, adding staff had not yet received the final assessments but anticipated significant repair and maintenance costs.
Staff said the assessments break needs into immediate (recommended within four years), intermediate (up to 10 years) and long-term (10 to 25 years) categories. Speaker 4 said staff will group repairs to identify the most cost-effective plan and present options for how to pay for prioritized work once the estimates are finalized.
The board was told a Committee of the Whole meeting specific to the law enforcement center, the ADC and the Justice Center is scheduled for September, with a separate meeting planned for the Public Works facility assessment. Staff emphasized the meetings will present cost estimates and options such as levying over time or bonding to complete larger projects.
No formal decisions were made at this presentation; staff said the assessments and subsequent options will inform capital-plan prioritization and budget choices later in the year.
