Staff presented the application and said the mural meets the city’s three mural standards, including a limit on commercial messaging and a public‑benefit justification. Commissioners repeatedly asked whether the design is paint on brick or a preprinted vinyl wrap and noted callouts on the rendering referencing “Pallas,” “Athena” and “Piper” were unexplained.
Commissioners raised concerns that a neon green outline and arrow marks appearing on the drawing might be part of the final artwork or merely a highlight on the rendering. One commissioner suggested making approval contingent on clarifying that the outline is not part of the mural; another said ambiguous renderings that could be installed before review had been a prior problem.
With the applicant not present, a commissioner moved to postpone approval pending applicant clarification of material, the border and whether any elements would be illuminated. The motion was seconded and the commission voted to postpone the item.
The commission closed the item without a final decision. Staff said the commission will request the applicant clarify the material and final artwork details before the matter returns to a future meeting.
