Bellefonte organizers pitch July parade and downtown 'Hometown Hero' banners to Centre County commissioners

Representatives of Historic Bellefonte Incorporated told the Centre County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 27 that the group's Hometown Hero banner program will return for a sixth year and will be paired with a patriotic parade and a 75‑minute community concert.
‘‘This year…we are putting together a patriotic parade on Friday evening, July fifth at 05:30, after which there will be the dedication of the hometown hero banners,’’ said Deb, who identified herself as representing Historic Bellefonte Incorporated and the hometown hero banner committee. She asked the board to consider a proclamation for July 3 as Bellefonte's day to celebrate the nation's 250th birthday and mentioned possible grant support to help the effort.
Deb detailed distribution plans for banner applications: downloadable copies on Historic Bellefonte Incorporated’s website, the Bellefonte Borough website and the Bellefonte hometown hero Facebook page, and hard copies at the Bellefonte Borough Office, the Bellefonte Train Station, and Carrie Benninghoff's office; she noted that completed applications should be dropped off at the Borough Office or Carrie Benninghoff's office rather than the train station.
Commissioners and organizers discussed parade logistics, including a downhill route from the high school to Talleyrand Park, the prospect of bus shuttles to offset limited parking, and food vendor/table ideas to highlight local restaurants and civic groups. The chair suggested applying to the Happy Valley Venture Bureau tourism grant program.
Organizers also requested county assistance in identifying potential grant funds; commissioners indicated general support and thanked volunteers for organizing the event. No formal county action (ordinance or contract) was taken at the meeting; organizers were encouraged to proceed with permit, parking and grant planning.
The board agreed to accept the announcement and take a photo with organizers following the meeting.
