New DDA/Main Street director introduced; city manager updates projects, odor complaints and seasonal services

At the Oct. 27 meeting the council welcomed Kristen Johnson as the City of Coldwater’s new DDA and Main Street director and heard the city manager’s regular report.

Kristen Johnson told council it was her first day and summarized her Main Street experience in Kennedale, Indiana and enthusiasm for downtown projects. "I'm really looking forward to getting involved and changing Downtown Coldwater into something really fantastic," she said.

City Manager Keith updated the council on a new odor complaint that staff had referred to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and explained how residents can file complaints to establish a pattern for investigation. He recognized Sergeant Brian Regan for completing the Eastern Michigan University School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership program. Keith also provided project updates: paving on North and South Clay (final paving and restoration), upcoming work on East Clark, delays on South Sprague (manhole and utility repairs), upcoming milling and repaving of Sauk River Drive, and Rotary Park work including a fishing pier and plans for new restrooms and a boat launch.

Keith reminded residents of the final brush pickup schedule (next Monday/Sunday night), that yard waste collection continues through the month and that the municipal services site at 45 Industrial Avenue is open dusk to dawn for yard-waste drop-off. He also recommended trick-or-treating hours on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
