Coldwater introduces new DDA director; Presbyterian steeple assessment and CLG grant deferred to 2027

Kristen Johnson introduced herself to the City of Coldwater Downtown Historic District board as the new downtown development authority (DDA) director for Main Street in Coldwater at the Jan. 14 meeting. "I am the new DDA director for Main Street in Coldwater. I've been here for about 3 months," Johnson said, adding she previously served as Main Street director in Kendallville, Indiana.
Staff provided two preservation project updates. First, the Beach House project: renderings and a draft report were circulated for board review and will be revised after feedback from Thornton Tomasetti; staff said once the revisions are complete the project will move forward in the review process (SEG 205–214).
Second, staff discussed the Presbyterian church steeple. After prior grant‑period reporting that was inconsistent about the steeple’s condition, staff recommended starting over with a targeted condition assessment for the steeple. Staff presented a quote from Jessica Flores with Preservation Forward for the steeple assessment and said the CLG grant application will be held until the 2027 grant round because there was not enough time to advance it to council before the current deadline. "SHPO has informed me that they plan on there being a 2027 round," staff said (Unidentified Staff, Speaker 5).
Board members and staff said they had discussed forming a committee to determine next steps and to review archives and history as part of the planning process. No formal votes or funding decisions were recorded in the meeting transcript for these items; the CLG grant application was described as tabled for the current cycle.
