Council approves major roadway and construction contracts, including $19.5M road contract

The Aurora City Council approved several capital-project contracts on Nov. 12, including a phase‑3 construction engineering services contract with H.R. Green, Inc. (not to exceed $1,924,344) and a construction award to R.W. Dunton Corporation for $19,523,900 for the Farnsworth, Belcher and Church roadway‑improvements project.
The H.R. Green engineering services resolution was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Franco, and adopted by roll call vote (11–1). The larger construction contract to R.W. Dunton also passed by roll call (11–1), with Alderman Loesch recorded as the sole dissent in both votes. Council heard brief staff presentations describing the scope—widening, resurfacing and intersection improvements—and a procurement summary before taking votes.
Separately, council approved other consent-agenda capital items earlier in the meeting, including guaranteed maximum-price funding authorizations for two new fire stations and purchases for bulk rock salt under joint-purchase agreements. Councilors discussed a GameTime procurement that appeared on the treasurer’s report as two quotes; staff explained one quote was processed under the $50,000 threshold while a later quote pushed the total above $50,000 and therefore required formal council approval.
The council’s votes put the two major roadway contracts into the city’s workplan; staff indicated project management, contingency and next steps would be handled through the purchasing and public‑works departments.
