Aurora honors postal carrier Jaylen Lockhart after life‑saving aid to neighbor

The Aurora City Council on Nov. 26 presented a proclamation and community honors to postal carrier Jaylen Lockhart after he assisted a neighbor who fell and was injured.
Mayor Richard Irvin — speaking by video after explaining he could not attend in person — praised Lockhart’s "noble, courageous and inspiring" actions and issued a proclamation recognizing Aug. 29 as Jaylen Lockhart Day in Aurora. Lockhart and the Miller family were invited to the podium; council members and city staff presented gifts, theater tickets and dining certificates and arranged photos with city leaders.
Lockhart said he would stop to help anyone in need and thanked the city for the honor. Guy and Marsha Miller, the family helped in the incident, described Lockhart’s actions in finding the family, stopping the bleeding and staying until help arrived. The U.S. Postal Service was represented by local managers who applauded Lockhart’s actions.
The recognition also included community supports: the city’s senior-services division offered free seasonal snow removal for the Millers, and local businesses and the Aurora Civic Center Authority provided gift certificates and theater tickets.
The presentation highlighted a local example of emergency aid, community gratitude and cooperation among city staff, residents and federal postal employees.
