Parents press Chula Vista board for more behavioral supports after incidents at Greg Rogers Elementary

Several parents and a grandparent used the public‑comment period to describe safety and supervision problems at Greg Rogers Elementary and asked the board for more behavioral supports and better communication.
Grandparent Linda García said a single teacher was expected to manage a combined class where a large share of students have special needs and that volunteers—when allowed—helped provide supervision. “This is, de veras, un problema de seguridad,” she told the board.
Parent J. Bautista said Rogers carries a high share of students with disabilities and described incidents in which teachers and students were injured. Parent Maribel Martínez described progress under the school’s current principal but said staffing remains inadequate and urged the board to support an evaluation of Rogers’s needs.
Parent Randy Herrera said his child was removed from Rogers because of repeated lack of supervision; he described finding his son injured and the school failing to provide timely incident reports to parents.
Trustees acknowledged the concerns and said staff would meet with site leaders. Trustee Fernández said he would work directly with staff to address safety committees and resource allocations; board members requested an update on Rogers and an evaluation of supports and needed staff time.
No formal action was taken during public comment; trustees asked administration to report back on supports, staffing levels (counselor and social‑worker time), and any immediate steps to improve supervision at Rogers.
