Senate committee advances bill to clarify and support meat donation programs
Summary

The Senate Health and Human Services committee heard testimony on House Bill 13-34 concerning meat donation and programs that direct excess game or harvest for food security.
Representatives from the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Hawaii Farm Bureau stood on written testimony in support. Community organizations and nonprofit food programs (including Game Management and 'To Feed the Hungry') also registered support and indicated operational interest in expanding donation channels.
During the hearing there were no recorded oppositions presented on the floor, and no committee questions materially changed the scope of testimony. In decision making the chair recommended passing HB 13-34 with a change to the defective date (12/31/2050) to align drafting and implementation timing; the committee adopted the recommendation and the measure will move forward in the legislative process.
