He described the Alliance's role as the county's designated local arts agency and said its duties include grant administration, technical assistance, advocacy and outreach.
Hirsch said arts and culture generate substantial economic activity statewide and locally and noted a national arts‑economy statistic presented in the slides. He warned that, over a roughly 20‑year window, inflation‑adjusted public funding has fallen and emphasized the Alliance's work on capacity building for smaller organizations and workforce issues — especially affordable housing for creative professionals.
Audience members and commissioners praised the collaboration among Visit Sarasota County, the EDC and the Alliance. Questions from board members and stakeholders focused on capital projects, infrastructure needs for cultural venues, and gaps in affordable housing that affect artists and creative staff. Hirsch said the Alliance will continue to seek capital support and provide training and networking to grow a resilient arts ecosystem.
The session closed with commissioners thanking presenters and the chair adjourning the meeting; no formal county action on grants was taken during the workshop.
