Castle Valley — The town council voted Jan. 21 to approve a cooperative agreement with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands to formalize municipal participation in state wildfire and forestry programs.
Council members reviewed the agreement and asked staff why an attached template still referenced 2017; staff said the template can be corrected and that the town only needs to provide the project descriptions the council filled out, not the 2017 template text. Staff also clarified that the fire district will continue to perform reporting and key operational tasks under the cooperative arrangement.
Council discussion focused on the town's financial and training responsibilities. Staff told the council that, for 2026, the town's monetary obligation under the agreement was shown as $0 while the town will continue planned activities. Jasmine Duncan moved to approve the cooperative agreement; members responded "Aye," and the motion carried.
