Council meets new Community Economic Development fellow assigned to Allegan

At the Jan. 27 meeting the Allegan City Council welcomed Mohammed Gabo, a Community Economic Development Association fellow placed through an Allegan County Community Foundation match. Staff said the city was one of six Michigan communities awarded a fellow and that the foundation provided the city's $10,000 match.
Gabo introduced himself and said he was raised in Grand Rapids and graduated from Davenport University. "My whole point being here is just trying to solve the housing crisis, basically," he said, describing a 15-month placement focused on new development, collaboration with Habitat for Humanity and a local rehab program, and connections with Community Action Agency of Allegan County on weatherization and other housing programs.
Council members welcomed Gabo and staff noted he spent the day on orientation, meeting with Community Action, the foundation and city staff.
