Commissioners approve several budget amendments; finance director reports September spending rates

Finance staff described amendments on behalf of multiple departments: several sheriff’s-department adjustments ($1,000; $2,500; $56,237.67; $10,193.95), a public-works insurance reimbursement presented as $254,045.49 for a pump repair, and USDA funds for the courthouse annex ($386,815.73 and $6,817.50). The board moved, seconded and approved the package of amendments by voice vote.
The finance director then presented the September expenditure report, noting the rule-of-thumb monthly target of 25%. Reported year-to-date percentages included approximately 24% for the general fund, 20% for social services, 51% for the enterprise fund (noting that insurance reimbursements will affect next month’s numbers), 11% for water and sewer and 29% for solid waste (driven in part by an annual blanket purchase order for curbside pickup).
Staff and commissioners praised recovery of insurance funds and asked for continued clarity on enterprise-fund positions. The board approved the amendments and the financial report and will reflect the reimbursements in next month’s figures.
