Northampton commissioners appoint Deborah Gatling as clerk; multiple board nominations approved

The Northampton County Board of Commissioners approved several appointments, including the county manager’s recommendation to appoint Deborah Gatling as clerk to the board.
County Manager Phillips recommended Gatling, citing more than 20 years of executive-level administrative experience, bilingual skills and notary status. A commissioner moved to appoint Gatling, a second was recorded, and the board approved the appointment by voice vote; multiple "aye" responses were recorded.
The board also approved two seats on the Turning Point Workforce Development Board. Chair recommended that a county commissioner serve as the board member who must be an active local business representative; the board moved and carried the appointments by voice vote.
Finally, the board nominated Dr. Kevin Edwards for a position on the Halifax Community College board of trustees (a seat the General Assembly assigned to the county). Commissioners discussed district representation and approved the recommendation.
