Temecula staff say Frog sensors will expand in Old Town; occupancy rarely tops 85% outside major events

"The green lines ... that is the pilot program. The red lines on all those street segments, that's where phase 2 is gonna go," Eric Jones said while mapping the sensor rollout. Jones said the city expects sensors and an associated parking app to be installed in February or March after final contract work; street installs should take about three weeks and the parking garage should take roughly three days with phased closures.
Jones reviewed occupancy charts showing that even during the holiday season the district rarely exceeded 85% occupancy except on high‑demand event days such as the Dec. 5 parade. He also said December trips skewed toward one hour or less, indicating quick in‑and‑out visits by shoppers.
The city plans to use sensor data to guide parklet placement and messaging to retailers, and the economic development department will work on social media outreach to avoid confusion similar to other cities that have changed parking policy.
Committee members asked for copies of the maps and charts; Jones said staff will provide slides and the city will notify Old Town stakeholders when install dates are finalized.
