Modesto City Council confirms three committee appointments, one over dissent

The Modesto City Council on Jan. 27 approved three personnel appointments to advisory bodies and commission representation.
Rajmeet Grewal was appointed as the Planning Commission representative to the Board of Zoning Adjustment for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026. Council Member Bavaro moved the resolution and Vice Mayor Williams seconded; the clerk recorded a unanimous roll-call vote and the motion carried.
Cecil Russell was appointed as the Planning Commission representative to the Citizens, Housing and Community Development Committee for 2026, term to Dec. 31, 2026. Council Member Wright moved the item and Council Member Bavaro seconded. The clerk recorded two dissenting votes (Council Member Alvarez and Council Member Ricky); the appointment carried 5–2.
Michelle Patiño was appointed to the Blight Abatement Advisory Committee for a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2029. The council approved that resolution by unanimous roll call.
The council took the appointments during its regular meeting after reading each resolution and opening the items to public comment; no speakers came forward on the appointment items. The votes were recorded by roll call and entered into the record.
