Summary
The board approved authorizing resolution 25-R-4 to allow rural transit service in the Tri-County service area; Trisha Atkins said the 2026 capital grant will add two medium transit vehicles ($124,000 each) and one minivan ($75,000) with a 15% local match ($48,450) committed by Union County Council on Aging.
Fayette County commissioners adopted authorizing resolution 25-R-4 allowing public rural transit to operate in the county as part of a Tri-County service area covering Union, Wayne and Fayette counties.
Trisha Atkins, who presented the resolution, said the county must pass the resolution because the grant pass-through for the region now sits with Union County. She described the 2026 grant package: the operating grant (Section 5311) covers service in the Tri-County region and the capital grant would add two medium transit vehicles, each estimated at $124,000, and one minivan estimated at $75,000. Atkins said Union County Council on Aging committed the local 15% match totaling $48,450 and that the resolution is a formal authorization to allow the service to operate in Fayette County’s service area.
"The local match was committed by Union County Council on Aging," Atkins said, and commissioners discussed route coverage and driver training; Atkins noted the transit program has increased driver capacity to about 19 after recent training sessions.
Commissioner motion (Dale moved; Tracy second) carried and the board approved resolution 25-R-4 by voice vote; recording officer and staff will upload the signed resolution and send copies to the pass-through county as required.
The resolution enables Fayette County’s participation in the regional transit operating and capital grants for 2026 and formalizes the county’s awareness and approval of the Tri-County service arrangement.
