Fayette County commissioners approve grant application, cemetery deed corrections and a public defender appointment

At its regular meeting commissioners approved the probation department’s application to a Fayette County Foundation grant for radios, signed quitclaim deeds returning cemetery parcels to associations, appointed Mike Bottomley to the public defender board, approved claims and payroll, and adjourned.
The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted on several administrative items at the meeting.
Probation radios: Ryan of the probation department requested permission to apply to the Fayette County Foundation for a partial-match grant to purchase radios. He said the grant award would be $7,500 toward a total purchase of $10,188.16, with the probation department covering roughly $2,688.16 from user fees; the board approved permission to apply by voice vote.
Cemetery quitclaim deeds: The county attorney presented corrected quitclaim deeds to return ownership of portions of Columbia, Springersville, Orange North and Everton cemeteries to their individual cemetery associations after a mistaken transfer in 2001. The board approved the deeds and discussed having the seller sign and then recording the deeds in the Recorder’s Office.
Appointments and finance: The board appointed Mike Bottomley to the public defender board following a nomination from the judge and approved claims and payroll. Each of these actions was approved by voice vote (three ayes).
Procedural notes: Several items required signatures and follow-up with county offices (recording deeds; documenting hires; notifying the judge about the appointment). The board adjourned following approval of claims and payroll.
