Fayette County commissioners voted to approve a one-year renewal of the county’s SonicWall/Dell advanced firewall subscription to maintain cybersecurity coverage while staff evaluates a newly released firewall model.
Michael King, the county IT representative, told the board the lowest one-year quote was $3,357.21 from Dell, about $600 cheaper than the next option, and that a three-year package would cost about $8,057. "The 1 year renewal on the advanced protection was $3,357.21," King said, adding that the shorter renewal gives staff time to assess the new model that hit the market two weeks earlier.
Commissioners moved (Tracy, moved; Dale, second) to approve the one-year subscription and recorded the voice vote in favor. King said the subscription includes antivirus and security packs the county must keep current to remain protected.
The renewal covers the subscription that expires at the end of the month; King said staff will use the year to decide whether to upgrade to a new model or change vendors. The board recorded the motion and approved the purchase at the meeting.
The action was procedural and carried with a voice vote; the county will process the purchase order to Dell for the one-year SonicWall/Dell advanced protection subscription.
