Committee continues sidewalk-variance request for Sheridan Lake Road to Feb. 10

The Public Works Committee on Jan. 27 continued a request from Advanced Design Engineering & Surveying, on behalf of Christopher Hamm, seeking a variance to waive the requirement to install sidewalks along Sheridan Lake Road as required by Rapid City Municipal Code 12.08.0.06.
Staff recommended denying the variance. One member argued there are no curbs, gutters, or sidewalks on that side of the road, calling a mandatory sidewalk there a "sidewalk to nowhere," and suggested the developer be given a buy‑out or condition tied to future school construction across the street. Public Works staff said the item is part of a larger set of development requests in the area and asked that items 17–20 be continued to the Feb. 10 meeting to consider them together; the committee agreed.
