Committee OKs temporary removal of waste and recycling containers near Fitzgerald Stadium during tournaments

The Rapid City Public Works Committee on Jan. 27 approved a request from the Rapid City Sports Commission to temporarily remove yard waste and recycling containers at the remote collection site next to Fitzgerald Stadium during several annual tournaments.
Staff recommended the limited removal to allow tournament organizers to clear event staging and reset the site. Committee members voted in favor of the request by voice vote.
Under the approved approach, containers may be removed no more than three days before each tournament and returned no more than three days afterward to permit cleanup and resetting activities. The change applies for the duration of listed tournaments including the Black Hills Veterans Classic, the Firecracker Tournament, the Dave Plouffe Legacy Tournament and the American Legion State A tournament.
The committee recorded the approval on the consent agenda and moved on to other business.
