Council approves National Grid permit requests for a new pole and underground conduit

After public hearings earlier in the meeting, the City Council voted to adopt National Grid orders authorizing a new pole location on Miller Street and underground conduit and switchgear installations on Pleasant Street.
At the hearings Aaron Roy, representing National Grid, said the Miller Street petition is a customer‑funded project for Maple Gardens to support a new pad‑mounted transformer and that the proposed pole would "rise and pull to feed that pad mounted transformer." For the Pleasant Street work Roy described installing a new switchgear manhole and PME switchgear in Parking Lot 277 and encased concrete conduits between existing manholes per plan number 311134152.
Council action: motions to adopt both orders were made in the full council meeting and approved by voice vote. National Grid representatives said typical contracting and restorations would use the city’s familiar street contractor and that the company would coordinate repairs to return streets to like‑new condition after work is complete.
What’s next: city staff and National Grid will coordinate scheduling, contractor oversight and restoration work in the right‑of‑way as the projects move to procurement and construction.
