House Adopts Amendments to HB444, Sets Bill as Special Order for Next Day

ANNAPOLIS — On Jan. 28 the Maryland House of Delegates adopted floor amendments to House Bill 444 (relating to public safety and immigration-enforcement agreements) and adopted the committee's favorable report as amended.
After the chair called for the question on the amendments, the presiding officer recorded the ayes and announced the amendments were adopted. The favorable report as amended was then adopted by voice vote. A member then moved to make HB444 a special order to allow time for additional amendments to be considered the next day; the motion was agreed to and HB444 was placed on the special order calendar for Jan. 29, with a request that members submit amendments in advance for consideration.
Procedural next steps: HB444 will return to the floor the following day for further amendment and consideration; members were asked to provide amendments to the floor leader and bill sponsor ahead of time.
