Fire chief reports 44,000 annual calls; city honors employees of the year

He cited increased fire‑investigation activity (about 241 investigations) and enforcement actions including seizures of approximately 1,800 pounds of fireworks.
The chief highlighted improvements to dispatch protocols intended to route incidents to appropriate units, described ongoing capital and station needs and announced retirees and employees of the year, including Angie King, services manager in administrative services, who is retiring after about 20 years of service.
Council members praised the department’s professionalism and asked staff to continue prioritizing staffing, capital needs and community safety communications.
