Human Relations Commission outlines plan to relaunch $3,000 community support grant

Vice Chair Galbraith recommended removing a line that would have restricted awards to two organizations and instead to say the commission will provide up to $1,000 to eligible nonprofits or community organizations so the commission can split awards as needed. Commissioners agreed the wording should be changed to retain flexibility.
Staff recommended a typical timeline: publish the application after the holidays, accept applications through early February, and award funds at the March commission meeting so disbursements can occur before the fiscal-year deadline. Commissioners also discussed outreach: staff will send the application to past applicants and the roundtable mailing list, and commissioners were asked to share with council members and their networks.
Commissioner Martis offered to share nonprofit contact lists from a quarterly collaboration of Riverside nonprofits to broaden distribution. The commission asked staff to assemble materials and suggested re-forming a grant ad hoc to review applications if commissioners want that extra review step before the March award meeting.
