Commerce City adopts FY26–27 CDBG allocation for home-rehabilitation program

The City of Commerce voted Jan. 27 to adopt a resolution authorizing submission of its Fiscal Year 2026–27 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) planning documents and to allocate the city’s CDBG funds to a Single Unit Housing Rehabilitation (Home Preservation) program.
Anna Linue of Avant Garde presented staff’s proposal and said Los Angeles County Development Authority notified the city of an approximate allotment of $119,000 for the coming program year. Staff reported an existing program balance of $302,996 and said 21 total applications had been received previously, with six applications currently active in the queue.
Because construction materials and labor have risen, staff proposed increasing the per-household grant from $25,000 to $30,000; after council discussion about maximizing the number of households served, the council adopted the resolution but lowered the per-household grant to $25,000 for now. City staff said the remaining carryover funds and the new allocation will be used to fund eligible low- and moderate-income single-family households for repairs such as roofing, windows and painting.
Councilmembers asked staff to track spending and return with performance updates. The motion to adopt the resolution passed following a roll-call affirming votes by council members present.
