Commerce library reports 116,619 checkouts and new programs for 2026

Sonia Bautista, Director of Library Services, told the City of Commerce City Council on Jan. 13 that the library system recorded substantial usage and program participation in the last fiscal year and previewed plans for 2026.

Bautista reported systemwide totals that included 3,692 open hours across four branches (Bridal, Veterans and Rosewood included; one learning center had not opened earlier in the year), 35,756 library cardholders, 82,234 in-person visits, and 9,164 reference questions. Electronic engagement included 73,892 website visits and more than 105,000 electronic items available. Patrons checked out 12,272 electronic materials, bringing the total checkouts to 116,619.

Volunteer and program metrics showed 766 volunteer hours and 962 programs that served 20,986 attendees across children, teen, adult, class visits and distribution events. Bautista said the library will expand services in 2026, including three free tax-service sessions (one evening, one morning, one Saturday) and a "Commerce Now" resident-story project planned for National Library Week in April. She also noted the library's participation in the regional "1 Book, 1 Coast" program and an anticipated author visit.

Councilmembers thanked staff for outreach and programming, and the mayor highlighted the value of Commerce maintaining an independent city library system. The presentation was received; no action was required on the item.

Next steps include continued promotion of new programs and coordination with the council on dates for tax-service signups and the Commerce Now activities.
