The City of Newberry’s mayor announced a proclamation calling a regular municipal election on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for three city commission seats representing groups 1, 2 and 3, each serving two-year terms. The mayor read the proclamation during the commission’s Jan. 26 meeting and provided administrative details including polling hours and candidate qualifying dates.
City staff said the polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. at Precinct 6 (25420 West Newberry Road). The qualifying period for candidates begins at noon Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, and ends at noon Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026. Prospective candidates were directed to contact the city clerk by phone at (352) 472-2446 or by email at cityclerk@newberryfl.gov to schedule qualifying appointments.
The proclamation was read into the record by the mayor, who cited the authority vested in the mayor’s office to call the election. The commission accepts the proclamation as the formal start of the municipal election process; the clerk reiterated the filing, registration-book closing and other administrative deadlines related to the election.
The clerk told the commission that the registration books for the city will close at 5 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, the stated final day of registration and book closing for the municipal election. The clerk also listed the names of election workers and deputy clerks that will administer the election.
