At the Jan. 28 meeting Sarah Castello (9 3rd School Street) described repeated incidents in which the accessible parking space near her driveway prevented ambulance and medical transport access and made trash day pickup difficult. She said the space was originally installed for a family member years earlier but is now causing congestion and safety concerns.
The police chief explained that officers tested the location using full‑size SUVs and captured video demonstrating that vehicles could exit the driveway; he also reported that the spot was in use by a nearby family with a handicapped child. Given competing claims, the council voted to continue the item and directed the town administrator and police chief to work with the petitioner and the current user to prepare a recommendation for council consideration.
Council members noted enforcement limitations (officers will not ticket minor encroachments every day) and encouraged an off‑line meeting with police, the administrator and residents to find a practical solution. The matter will return to a future council meeting with a proposed plan.
