On the regular agenda, the commission voted to continue the POE/EHP application for Creative Art Group LLC (dba Castle SF) after staff reported a dispute over the listed owners and last-minute documents that had not been provided 72 hours in advance as required. Counsel for the removed partner told the commission they needed time to review new filings; the commission moved, seconded and approved a continuance to the August 5 hearing.
After troubleshooting a remote audio problem, the commission approved a one‑time outdoor amplified‑sound permit for Hawthorne Lounge in Union Square. It also approved an amendment requested by the San Francisco Giants for a series of pregame events at China Basin Park, and granted a POE/EHP application for 201 Bodega (the former Asia SF) subject to planning conditions already on file limiting hours until the owner secures a conditional-use amendment.
The commission approved limited live performance permits for Side A (Mission), 50 Vara (Outer Sunset) and The Fold (Mission), each with staff‑recommended conditions that include internal sound limits and outreach requirements. Commissioners emphasized enforceable decibel and time limits and the availability of Entertainment Commission staff to mediate complaints from neighbors.
Finally, commissioners unanimously elected Sim Wang as vice president and re-elected Ben Lehi as commission president.
What the votes mean: those venue approvals place operators under the commission’s jurisdiction for sound complaints and permit compliance; the continuance of the Castle SF item preserves evidentiary review time and prevents immediate permit action while ownership documents are clarified.
The commission closed at about 7:42 p.m. Staff follow-ups and any required planning approvals remain conditions for some of the newly approved permits.
