The Board of Moffat County Commissioners voted Jan. 27 to award the 2026 cattle guard iron contract to Craig Steele for $32,212.
Dan Miller of Road and Bridge said the low bidder, Dowdy Steel Machine of Delta, withdrew its bid after seeking to renegotiate, leaving Craig Steele as the next acceptable bidder. Miller recommended awarding the contract locally, noting the price difference to the next bidder was not large enough to justify sending the work out of town.
A commissioner moved to award the bid to Craig Steele and the motion was seconded. After commissioners vocalized approval, the board recorded the 'Aye' responses and the motion carried.
Miller framed the recommendation as supporting local business and keeping work in county while following procurement rules after the withdrawal of the initial low bid.
