The council approved an amendment to Fayetteville’s Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area (ORA) that adds two recently opened downtown restaurants—Tavern Lafayette at 572 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Moon House at 129 W. Lafayette—by extending the ORA boundary with small connectors and sidewalk segments.
Economic development staff said the Moon House addition is a short (about 270‑foot) connector to the existing district and that the Tavern Lafayette amendment extends Prairie Street and a stretch of South Government Avenue to include the business while excluding state right‑of‑way and areas that lack sidewalks or pedestrian safety features. Staff emphasized they will continue to require pedestrian safety improvements and will work with restaurant operators on boundary signage and public education so patrons remain within authorized walking areas.
Council approved a map amendment and suspended the rules to move the ordinance forward. The amendment excludes alleyways and state right‑of‑way and will not expand the ORA beyond sidewalks and pedestrian areas that meet safety standards.
