GREELEY, Colo. — The GreeleySchool District No. 6 Board of Education on Jan. 26 approved two proclamations recognizing Black History Month (February 2026) and National School Counseling Week (Feb. 2–6, 2026).
Director Edmonds read the Black History Month proclamation, which notes the district is home to more than 700 students of African descent. After a brief board discussion and an aye vote from each director, Greeley West students Hanifa Adam and Marcos Rodriguez accepted the proclamation and described plans to feature Black artists and historical figures across academic subjects and hallways.
The board next approved a proclamation recognizing school counselors. Lead counselor Deb Heck and several counselors who attended the meeting described counselors’ classroom interventions, restorative-practice supports and career- and college-readiness work. Students and board members credited counselors with contributing to the district’s graduation and student-support outcomes.
Both proclamations were adopted by unanimous voice votes recorded as 7-0. The proclamations themselves are ceremonial but provide a public acknowledgment of district programming and staff roles; no regulatory or budgetary action was associated with these agenda items.
