Commission reviews Henderson School marker planning and a draft Southeast Fayetteville historic-resources survey
Summary
The commission received scheduling details for a Henderson School site visit (leading date Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.) and an update that TDY consultants delivered a draft historic-resources survey for Southeast Fayetteville around Christmas; the draft has been shared with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and a final report is expected soon.

Commissioners were briefed on two parallel preservation items: a pending site visit for a Henderson School historical marker and the near-complete TDY Phase 1 historic-resources survey for Southeast Fayetteville.
On the Henderson School marker, staff apologized for a delay scheduling a site visit and said they circulated a doodle poll to commissioners. “It looks like right now, January 31 at 10AM is in the lead for the winning time,” one staff member said, and a printed scale model of the marker will be posted for review.
Separately, staff reported TDY consultants completed fieldwork last fall and that a draft survey report and survey log arrived around Christmas. Staff have submitted preliminary comments and forwarded the draft to the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program for its review; staff said they expect a final version very soon and offered to share the draft with commissioners and provide printed copies for neighborhood outreach.
Commissioners praised the consultants for producing a detailed draft quickly; one commissioner noted the project is finishing “about 6 months early” and that the draft required very few comments. No formal votes or policy decisions on marker siting or the survey were taken during the meeting.
During announcements, staff also noted that the Oak Grove Historic District will go before Fayetteville City Council on Jan. 20 for local review and that a petition meeting the required 51 signatures was certified for a larger historic district in Southeast Fayetteville; staff plan to present an initial report to the commission and the historic-district commission in March.
