Independent Restaurant Alliance asks Experience Fayetteville for $10,000 annual support

"We want to ask that the AMP commission consider $10,000 a year to help sustain us in the long term," Robertson said, citing the group's disbursements and program work. Robertson said the Alliance dispersed "a little over $43,000" in 2020 and has "already almost dispersed $42,000" this year, underscoring ongoing demand for rent and medical assistance among hospitality workers.
Robertson described typical payouts, saying the Alliance's average payment is about $650 while rent bills applicants show usually range between $800 and $1,800. The group also emphasized an eligibility requirement: applicants must work in Fayetteville to receive priority for assistance.
Commissioners asked about non-monetary support and partnerships; Robertson and other Alliance members described workforce-training collaborations with the Fayetteville Public Library and local businesses that provide discounted care or services to applicants. Commissioner discussion focused on budget trade-offs and on where the requested funding might come from in the proposed 2026 budget.
Staff presented options to fund the Alliance at $10,000 by reallocating existing line items (drawing $5,000 from industry-support funds and $2,500 from the community-incentive fund in addition to $2,500 already budgeted). Commissioners signaled support for moving the $10,000 request forward for formal inclusion in the 2026 budget, which will be considered for final approval in December.
The commission did not take a final vote on the Alliance request at the meeting; staff said the proposed amount will be finalized as part of the December budget approval process.
