Fayetteville — City staff updated the Active Transportation Advisory Committee on multiple active trail and cycle‑track projects, citing construction delays, funding sources and near‑term milestones.
Matt (staff) outlined Mission Trail Phase 2 work south of Brush, saying crews completed clearing but machine breakdowns have slowed paving and compaction. "The machine broke, so there was some findings... that means the impact of striving will really go up," he said, and staff shared construction photos showing tie‑ins near the Metro building and planned retaining work adjacent to railroad tracks to keep the Greenway open during events.
On Maple Street, staff reviewed the cycle track design from Leverett to Arkansas/Garland Avenue, explaining the construction includes a concrete base for hexagonal pavers and a two‑foot cobblestone strip to separate pedestrian and bicycle zones. Completion of the pavers was delayed by back orders and damage; staff expected substantial completion and opening of segments by mid‑ to late‑September, with a phased finish after school starts.
The committee heard funding details for the projects. "We got $1,500,000.0 local funding and $1,200,000.0 of TAP federal funding for this project," Matt said. He also named Garrett X Excavating as the contractor on the Maple Street work.
Members asked about business impacts during construction and whether bike signals and striping would be in place; staff said final striping and bike signal installations are part of the follow‑up work. Staff will continue to send photos and updates as construction and bridge fabrication progress.
Provenance: trail and Maple Street updates appear in the transcript between SEG 696 and SEG 1060.
