Police task force reports encampment cleanups and vows judicial coordination on enforcement

Task‑force leaders and councilmembers discussed the legal limits on incarceration for misdemeanor offenses, First and Fourth Amendment considerations for moving people along, and the need to show judges documented repeated problematic contacts to secure more meaningful corrective steps.
Council members praised the outreach work but asked for a sustainable funding plan: police noted the effort has used personnel pulled from other duties and that the task force will return to council with an info packet and funding request for continued operations. Council also asked staff to brief them on a loitering memo and next steps for legal and judicial coordination.
